Transportation transformation is underway—one that promises cleaner, more sustainable journeys for all. At the heart of this revolution lies the electric vehicle (EV), a marvel of modern engineering that not only offers an exhilarating driving experience but also carries the potential to significantly reduce our carbon footprint.

What is EV Charging?

Electric vehicle (EV) charging refers to the process of supplying electrical energy to recharge the batteries of electric vehicles. As the name suggests, EVs run entirely or partially on electricity stored in rechargeable batteries, which means they need to be recharged regularly to maintain their operation.

EV charging involves connecting the vehicle to an external source of electricity via a charging station or an electric outlet. The process can vary in time and method depending on the type of EV, the capacity of the battery, and the type of charging infrastructure available. There are three main levels of EV charging, each offering different speeds and power levels:

Level 1 Charging (120 Volts AC)

This is the most basic form of EV charging and typically involves plugging the vehicle into a standard 120-volt household electrical outlet with a 5-pin plug set up and used on older models and North America.

Level 2 Charging (240 Volts AC)
DC Fast Charging (Direct Current)

EV charging infrastructure continues to expand rapidly, with governments, businesses, and individuals investing in the development of public and private charging stations. The goal is to make EV ownership more convenient and accessible, encouraging more people to make the switch to electric vehicles for a cleaner, greener future.

Domestic

EV charging for the domestic market has grown significantly over the past few years and has become easier to install. Our accredited team consistently deliver first-class installations. All our installations meet the required safety standards, giving you peace of mind that it is safe to charge your vehicle from the comfort of your own home, with all installations tailored to your vehicle, property and charging needs.

Do We Have a Preferred Manufacturer?

No, we will identify the best product for your needs, and only select from an approved range of reputable suppliers. Here are just some of the features we will consider and discuss with you:

  • kW required to suit the purpose
  • Tethered/untethered
  • Connectivity (Wi-Fi, smart app)
  • Timer requirements
  • Warranty
  • Design
  • Solar battery storage integration

What’s the Difference Between Untethered and Tethered?

The main difference is the charging cable. Tethered chargers feature a permanently attached cable, while untethered chargers offer a detachable one.

Tethered Chargers

For home charging tethered units are generally more convenient. It is a type of wall box with a cable attached for you to plug directly into your vehicle.

Benefits

Less Stress – not having to worry about where your cable is. It’s ready and waiting to connect for each charge.

Less Fuss – no extra steps are needed to fit the cable into the charging box before you can plug it into your EV.

Untethered Chargers

An untethered car charger doesn’t have the fitted cable that tethered units have, so you’ll need to plug in your own. These types of wall boxes have an outlet for the charging cable to plug into, so you’ll need to have one available each time you charge.

Benefits

Neater – they are smaller and tidier, and you can upgrade your charging cable whenever you like.

Cheaper – Are usually cheaper, (an additional charging cable will be required if you don’t already have one).

Business

Today businesses are looking at ways of achieving green credentials and introducing EV charging to your workplace is a great starting point. More than ever, responsible businesses are considering the needs of their employees, fleets, customers and visitors.

There are positive benefits of introducing these to the workplace:

  • Positive environmental factors
  • Convenience
  • Increased employee satisfaction
  • Improved brand awareness

Workplace Schemes Available

The scheme covers up to 75% of the total costs of the purchase and installation of EV charge points (including VAT), capped at a maximum of: £350 per socket

  • 40 sockets across all sites per applicant – for instance, if you want to install them at 40 sites, you will have 1 socket available per site
  • It is open to eligible: businesses, charities, public sector organisations, small accommodation businesses
  • There is a separate scheme with a different grant amount for state-funded education institutions.
  • All charge points must be installed by an OZEV-authorised installer.
  • There is an eligibility criteria.

We used BSE Home to install an air source heat pump and a new PV system with batteries for us, and we are very pleased with the result. The scaffold was up and down in just over a week and they left the property clean & tidy and even cleaned our gutters! Would not hesitate to recommend them.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Truly exceptional service from start to finish After being without hot water and heating for over six weeks during the winter, we had reached a point where things felt incredibly stressful and uncertain. BSE|Home came to our rescue when we needed help the most — and we will always be grateful for that. At very short notice, they stepped in and were able to support and progress the job within days, despite the complexity involved. Our system is a Daikin air source heat pump, and it was clear from the outset that the team genuinely knew the equipment inside out. They quickly diagnosed the issues, put a clear plan in place, and got everything moving when others had failed to do so. What really stood out was how brilliant the entire team were — not just technically, but as people. The engineers were professional, calm, friendly, and respectful throughout. Alongside the heating work, they also carried out the necessary electrical work to ensure the system was safe, compliant, and working exactly as it should. Everything was explained clearly, with patience and care, and nothing ever felt rushed. After weeks of being cold and worn down by the situation, having BSE|Home involved was a huge relief. They brought reassurance, competence, and genuine kindness at a time when it really mattered. Thanks to them, we finally had our heating and hot water restored — and, just as importantly, our peace of mind. A huge thank you to everyone at BSE|Home. We honestly cannot recommend them highly enough and would not hesitate to trust them again for any residential heating, electrical, or Daikin heat pump work in the future.
